Sport Development Resources
The UPA is striving to promote and support the development of Ultimate at all levels of play as
defined by the UPA. More specifically, the UPA has set out to work with Ultimate team, league and event organizers to share ideas on the development of Ultimate and to determine how the UPA may better support these organizations throughout North America. Go to our Resources page to look at ongoing programs and available resources intended to assist you with developing Ultimate in your local community.
Coaches
In 2004 the UPA began an extensive effort to create a corps of professionally trained coaches. Through standardizing coaching ethics and the Spirit of Coaching, to providing safety information for youth athletes, the Level I course helps to defines the role of coaches in Ultimate. Building on the success of the Level I program, the UPA launched the Level II advanced skills course in 2007.
Grant Program
Since 1997 the UPA Grant Program has been supporting Ultimate outreach projects all over the country. The mission of the Program is to promote growth in Ultimate and Ultimate Spirit in North America, to create links between the UPA and local organizers, to serve members' needs and to create documentation that will inspire others to further innovation and excellence.
Women's Outreach
For years now the UPA has specifically targeted development in women's Ultimate because of the fewer numbers of women players and the clear need for more playing opportunities for women. The UPA Women's Outreach Program is geared towards supporting organizers who are interested in introducing and promoting the sport of Ultimate to women. To assist organizers with their women's outreach programs, we have developed the Women's Clinic Kit and the new College Team Start-up Kit. If you are interested in supporting women's Ultimate in your community, starting a new women's team or increasing the number of women players on your league?..read more about how this program may be able to help you!
