World Games 2009 Team USA

The UPA has announced the process and procedures for coach and athlete selection for Team USA for the 2009 World Games Ultimate competition scheduled for July 19-21 in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei. Deadline for coach applications is January 10; athlete application deadline is January 15. For more information on the process and to submit an application, please click here.

Collegiate Ultimate Competition
The UPA College Competitive Structure process continued this past weekend, December 13-14, with a Task Force meeting in Boulder, CO. To learn more about what happened at the meeting, click here.

The College Restructure Task Force has proposed a number of changes for the 2009 season that meet the criteria outlined in the post-meeting statement. It is critical that the UPA receive feedback from the membership about these proposed changes, so please fill out this survey and encourage others who care about college Ultimate to do the same. We will be accepting feedback through the end of December on these changes.

National Mixed Director Position
After interviewing multiple candidates the UPA is pleased to announce the selection of Kris Kelly to the position of National Mixed Director.

Kris has been heavily involved in the Mixed Division as a captain and founding member of Slow White from Boston, MA. She has been a driving force to increase the quality and competitiveness of the Mixed Division with her work at the Boston Invite and other pre-Series Mixed events.

The UPA would like to thank all those who applied for the position. It is a testament to our members that we have so many qualified people who have a vested interest in seeing our sport thrive.

Kris takes over for George Cooke who is stepping down after successfully leading the division since 2002. The UPA and players in the Mixed Division owe George a great deal of thanks for his service.

2009 Annual Members Meeting

The Annual Members Meeting of the UPA will take place on Sunday January 18 at 5:30 pm in Boulder, CO. Members wishing to attend should contact UPA executive director Sandie Hammerly at sandie<at>hq<dot>upa<dot>org so that the UPA can plan for your attendance. The deadline for Proposals to be considered by the Board at the January meeting is December 31, 2008.

2009 College Championships

The UPA is pleased to announce that the 2009 UPA College Ultimate Championships will be held on May 22-24 in Columbus, OH. The UPA, Ohio State Ultimate, and the Columbus Ultimate Disc Assocation are excited to partner once again and look forward to providing an exciting event of the highest quality as a culmination to the 2009 UPA College Series. Communications Director Search

The UPA has opened the application process for the position of Director of Communications. 

The Director of Communications will direct and implement print and web-based systems, tools and strategies designed to implement the UPA’s new mission -- to advance the sport of Ultimate in the United States by enhancing and promoting Character, Community and Competition -- in ways that attract, engage and deepen relationships between the UPA and its members, organizational partners, and other internal and external constituents. For the position search announcement and to learn more about how to apply, click here.

2008 Board Election Results

The UPA congratulates Gwen Ambler (At Large), Seth Grossinger (Central Region) and John Terry (South Region) on their election, and Henry Thorne (At Large) on his re-election to the UPA Board of Directors for the 2009-2011 term.

The UPA also wishes to acknowledge outgoing Board members Todd Demetriades, Ricky Eikstadt, and Theresa Weber for representing Ultimate players nationwide during their tenure on the Board.
